Terms of Use

These terms explain the rules for using the FolderStream website, desktop application, Free edition, and Pro licence.

Last updated: September 1, 2026

1. About FolderStream

FolderStream is Windows desktop software that helps people browse, organise, and watch personal video files stored locally on their own computer or connected drives.

FolderStream is not a streaming service, not a media server, and not a content provider. It does not supply films, TV shows, or streaming catalogues.

2. Acceptance of These Terms

By downloading, installing, purchasing, activating, or using FolderStream, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or software.

3. Licence to Use FolderStream

FolderStream gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive licence to use the software in line with these Terms.

You do not acquire ownership of the FolderStream software, branding, source code, design, or intellectual property. Except where applicable law gives you a right to do so, you must not copy, resell, reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise misuse the software or related materials.

4. FolderStream Free and Pro

FolderStream may be offered in Free and Pro editions.

FolderStream Free may include core local playback and organisation features and may also include limits such as a maximum number of videos or library locations.

FolderStream Pro is offered as a one-time purchase that unlocks additional functionality such as unlimited videos, multiple library folders or connected library locations, backup and restore, advanced thumbnail and cache tools, library health and reconnect tools, and supported 3D viewing modes.

Not every future feature or future version is guaranteed to be included in any current or future Pro purchase.

5. Pro Purchases and Payments

Where FolderStream Pro purchases are offered, payments are processed through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record.

Checkout may include taxes, VAT, GST, or other local charges depending on your location. The final charged amount is shown during checkout before you complete your purchase.

FolderStream does not claim to store your payment card details directly.

6. Licence Keys and Device Activation

Where Pro licensing is enabled, a Pro purchase may generate a licence key. That key is intended for the purchaser's own use and must not be sold, publicly shared, or redistributed.

The current intended activation allowance is up to 3 computers. If the licensing system is active, reasonable support may be available for legitimate situations such as deactivating an old device, replacing a computer, or resolving activation-limit issues.

FolderStream may disable a licence for fraud, chargebacks, refunds, deliberate licence abuse, or unauthorised resale. Temporary internet loss does not automatically mean a legitimate licence is lost.

7. Refunds

FolderStream Pro purchases may be refunded within 14 days of purchase upon request. Refunds are processed through Lemon Squeezy.

After the 14-day voluntary refund period, refunds may still be available where required by applicable consumer law or where Lemon Squeezy determines a refund is appropriate under its payment and chargeback processes.

Statutory consumer rights are not excluded. If a full refund is issued, the associated Pro licence may be deactivated. See the Refund Policy for more detail.

8. Your Media and Content

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to store, access, and play the media you use with FolderStream.

FolderStream does not provide films, TV shows, streaming catalogues, or copyrighted content. FolderStream does not take ownership of your files.

9. Local Files, Storage, and Privacy

FolderStream works with folders selected by you. Original video files remain on your device or connected storage.

FolderStream library metadata may be stored locally, including tags, playlists, favourites, custom titles, custom cover art, and watch progress. Use of FolderStream is also governed by the Privacy Policy.

10. Backup and Restore

Backup and restore features protect FolderStream organisation and library metadata. They do not necessarily back up original video files.

You remain responsible for keeping separate backups of important media and storage devices.

11. Updates, Features, and Compatibility

FolderStream may receive updates over time. Features and compatibility may change between versions.

Your operating system, video format, codecs, hardware, connected storage, and system configuration may affect how FolderStream performs. Not every file format or hardware setup is guaranteed to work.

Nothing in these Terms promises lifetime access to all future major versions or all future features.

12. Acceptable Use

You must not use FolderStream, the website, or related licensing and checkout systems for fraud, licence-key resale, licence circumvention, unlawful use, or interference with the website, checkout, download, licensing, or support infrastructure.

13. Intellectual Property

The FolderStream name, logo, website, software, code, design, and documentation remain protected intellectual property of the relevant rights holder or licensor.

Your own media remains your property, and FolderStream does not claim ownership of your personal video files.

14. Availability and Support

FolderStream may not always be available on every platform, and features or system requirements may change over time.

Reasonable efforts will be made to keep the software and website available, but uninterrupted availability is not guaranteed.

Support is provided through published FolderStream support channels, including support.html and support@localstream.co.nz.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, FolderStream is not responsible for loss caused by problems outside its reasonable control, including storage-device failures, local file damage, unsupported formats, third-party services, or hardware and system configuration issues.

You remain responsible for your original media files, your own backups, your storage devices, and your system configuration.

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under consumer protection laws that cannot legally be excluded.

16. Termination or Loss of Pro Entitlement

Pro entitlement may be suspended or revoked for fraud, refund, chargeback, licence abuse, or breach of these Terms.

Revoking Pro does not give FolderStream the right to delete your original video files, and FolderStream does not claim ownership of your media.

17. Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes should be reflected on this page together with an updated date.

Updated Terms do not automatically rewrite materially different past purchase terms retroactively where the law would not allow that.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by New Zealand law. If mandatory consumer protections apply in your country, those protections continue to apply where required by law.
